Hogarth’s Scottish Porridge Oats are the most popular way to make porridge. Our porridge oats are only made with Scottish oats by traditional milling methods. Giving a delicious taste and creamy porridge. Oatflakes are oats which have been cooked, steamed, rolled and baked, so they will cook very quickly. This food is extremely versatile and it can be found in a range of recipes and has an assortment of uses. It is a very healthy and useful addition to our diet, thanks to its high nutritional value.
Some people like to use oatflakes as a breakfast cereal, heating them and mixing them with an assortment of ingredients. They can also be added to baked goods like scones, muffins, cookies, and bread, creating additional texture and adding to the nutritional value of these foods. Some people also mix them in with granola, muesli and other cold breakfast cereal mixes. Oatflakes can also be added to pancakes. Technically, oatflakes can be eaten straight out of the box, although they may not be very exciting in this form.

Excellent oats for porridge, takes a serving or two to find a balance. This is what I do:-
I use a ratio of 1 part oats to 6 parts milk.
For me, a single serving, that translates to 35gms oats and 210gms milk by weight. Pinch of salt if desired – works well with home made marmalade as sweetener.
I weigh the oats and milk directly into a saucepan, put on full heat and stir continuously. As soon as it starts chuckling take the heat right down to a minimum, set timer for 5 minutes and keep stirring until you get the occasional wink. Cover with lid.
Choose your flavouring and place in bowl, heat in microwave at full blast for 20 seconds. Time to finish at end of porridge 5mins cooking time. Pour porridge into hot bowl and serve.
Flavourings can be jam, compote, maple syrup etc. I use a dessert spoon full.

1st tried these oat at a cafe in Lagan, West Highlands, creamiest oats I’ve ever had. Travelling in the Borders area Hogarth’s was at the top of my shopping list. For a family of 2 pots for porridge, each morning, one salt and water, the other milk then sugar or syrup added, only one required now due to the creaminess of the oats. Cook equally well on hob or microwave, or left overnight in the fridge with yogurt and fruit.
